Tech Talk: Microsoft unveils Windows Phone 7

Tuesday February 23, 2010

Microsoft has finally announced Windows Mobile 7, which has been renamed Windows Phone 7 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

There has been a lot of talk in the mobile phone world over the past few years, basically stating that Microsoft really lost its footing in the cell phone market to the competition, otherwise known as Apple's iPhone, Google's Android and, last but not least, RIM's BlackBerry.

About a year ago, Microsoft released Windows Mobile 6.5, which was supposed to be a middle step up to Windows Mobile 7.

Last year a solid amount of Windows Mobile devices were sold. However, sales figures were down by 13 percent worldwide.

If you ask anyone who has general knowledge about cell phone sales and market share, they would tell you that the iPhone is blowing the market away in growth numbers.

Google Android is starting to pick up right behind Apple, as many manufacturers such as Motorola, HTC, Dell, Samsung, and others have adopted the Google Android platform and are releasing phones this year.
